Mike McWilliams, Trumpet
Adding some high end to the powerful Houserockers horn section is Mike McWilliams on Trumpet. Mike began playing the trumpet at age 10, and continued to play all throughout high school and San Jose State University, playing in the Jazz band, Symphonic band, and Marching band. He also marched with the Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps from 1974 to 1985, building his chops up to cover lead parts from a very young age. Mike’s main influences are Doc Severinsen, Maynard Ferguson, Al Hirt, Tower of Power, and Earth, Wind, and Fire. Mike plays on a Flip Oakes Kanstul “Wild Thing” Trumpet, with a Monette B4L Prana Mouthpiece. His horn microphone is a Sennheiser E908TEW, paired with a Sennheiser EW 152 G3 Wireless system. Mike has been playing in local bay area horn bands since 1984, believing that real horns add a certain sparkle to a band, like icing on the cake, and cannot be covered with keyboards or synthesizers. Mike also plays jazz with the Nineteen Jazz Ensemble and Funk/R&B with Pacific Standard Time. There is no substitute for real brass!
